Firefox is one of the most popular browsers used by millions around the globe. It comes with many features that make browsing on the internet a fruitful experience. However, one of the disadvantages of using Firefox is the Antivirus software that almost always finds some trouble with the way Firefox works. And in that list of troubling antiviruses, Avast would take one of the top spots.
But in showing this error, Firefox is not the only one as Chrome also gives you such errors, depending on the version you use. The error shown by Firefox displays messages like “Your browser is being managed by your organization” or “Your organization has disabled the ability to change some options” message in Settings if you’ve installed security software like Avast.
The first message that is written in the previous paragraph is currently being displayed in Nightly, and the second is shown in Firefox 67 stable version.
But why does this error happen?
This can happen if external software such as Antivirus sets policies for the Firefox browser. But don’t worry, the message can be removed easily to make your device function properly.
If you’ve installed Avast antivirus on your computer to scan for potential risks and viruses, the Settings page informs your organization that you placed restrictions on you to not to change settings. In case you are using a device of your own and you’re the only single user using it and your PC does not belong to any organization, then that message will annoy you.
Keep in mind that the policies from the browser address bar reveal all policies set by the user or external software for Firefox browser either personally or by the organization the user works for. In this case, you will notice “ImportEnterpriseRoots” policy being used and its value set to true.
- Navigating to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Policies/Mozilla/Firefox/Certificates also shows ImportEnterpriseRoots” Dword enabled by Avast.
- In about: config you can find pref “security.enterprise_roots enabled” value as “locked“.
How to remove “Your browser is being managed by your organization” message in Firefox?
To remove the “Your browser is being managed by your organization” message in Firefox, use the following steps:
- First of all, open the registry editor.
- Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies and select and delete the “Mozilla” parent key present below Microsoft.
Now, restart the Firefox browser and visit Settings, you’ll no longer see the message.
An important thing to keep in mind is that uninstalling Avast removes the policy only. However, you will be left with the key and that will be present in the Registry. It is mandatory to remove the Mozilla registry key that will still be shown in the Firefox browser to remove the message.
