If You Do Not Remove Plaque You Are Encouraging Gum Infection

Bacterial plaque which is a colorless film of sticky material containing food particles, bacteria and saliva left attached on teeth, and above and below the gumline can encourage tooth decay and gum infection. Unremoved plaque can harden into tartar and can irritate the gums, which is why there is a need to remove plaque everyday to be able to avoid gum infection or gum disease. Tartar can only be removed by a dental professional. The essence of regular check ups is to eradicate bacterial plaque that is causing gum disease and as well as to prevent gum disease from progressing and put general health at risk for heart attack and stroke.
