If you are using Avast, you might have faced the issue when instup.exe is running in the Task Manager. To be more specific, it runs under the Processes tab from the location C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\Setup which you can access. As said in our other articles, you can also notice it on Task Manager when you change or repair installed Avast components.
When this process is running, it is probably updating virus definitions VPS, or programs by decompressing packages it has downloaded and it goes on automatically. It does require more bandwidth to perform its task successfully, and hence might be using more system resources. But in some cases, problems arise when it runs constantly for a long period of time that you can easily understand if you are a regular Avast user. If you are not, let us tell you that, it generally goes away after a few minutes, and if it is taking longer, there is certainly an issue and you can fix it using the following steps.
How to stop instup.exe of Avast from running constantly?
- First of all, you need to disable the self-defense module by opening the Avast user interface, going to Settings, clicking on Troubleshooting, and unchecking ‘Avast self-defense module’.
- Now, delete the ‘Update’ log file in this directory ‘C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Persistent Data\Avast\Logs’ and enable the self-defense module again.
This will solve your problems and you will be able to stop Avast’s instup.exe from running for a long time.
