Headphone jack not working on Laptop| Fixed

The infamous Headphone jack is still found in many latest laptops which is why it causes issues because the manufacturers do not give priority to its software while implementing. Many users still use them instead of connecting wireless headphones as wired connection are more stable, low latency, and more traditional.

Steps to resolve audio issue

  1. Make sure the jack in fitted properly

Before we even try the fixes, the first one is to check the connection. For that, plug-in the headphone pin in the jack properly.

  1. Check if the Volume is clear

In most of the cases, there is no issue but the user has the volume to the lowest or the audio is set to mute by default which causes the problem. To check if it is the problem, follow the steps below.

  • Check the sound button on the bottom bar (Mostly on the right side).
  • Click the button and adjust the Sound bar to at least half to make sure the audio is coming.
  • Now, try playing any audio/video and check if the audio is coming from the headphones.
  1. Checking the broken headphones

Another reason might be a pair of broken headphones which are causing the issue of no audio on Windows PC. To make sure it is not the scenario:

  • Try with a new or spare headphone and if the sound is coming, then it is time to switch to a new pair.
  • If the voice is still not audible, move on to the next fix.
  1. Updating the Audio drivers

There is a high possibility that the audio drivers are outdated that may be causing the error or maybe wrong drivers to have been in your system.

For this, Install the correct audio driver from the official website of the manufacturer.

  • Fill in the correct details of the brand of driver present in the system.
  • Make sure it matches your computer architecture system.

Method 2

      If you are a newbie and still cannot find the relevant details about the audio driver. This method will surely help you with that.

  • Down the Driver Easy software from here.
  • Run the software and click the Scan Now It will scan for all the outdated or corrupted drivers and present a list of all.Driver Easy software
  • Click Update All after buying the Pro version with a minimum charge.Update All

Restart the computer to make sure the problem is fixed.

  1. Setting the headphones as default player

Windows 10 is very much capable of doing things including the default device for audio. When a headphone is detected, windows transfer the signals to the jack but sometimes the default is set to device speakers. To solve the problem, follow the steps below.

  • Right click the bottom icon of Sound from the menu below.
  • Select Sounds.

  • Click ok.

See if the problem persists.

  1. Change the Format

  • Right click the bottom icon of Sound from the menu below.
  • Select sounds.
  • In the pop-up menu, click Playback and hover to Headphones.
  • Right click the Headphones option and select properties.
  • In a new menu, select Advanced tab.
  • Check the formats and select the one with clear audio.

Final Call

If none of the above fixes work, try uninstalling the IDT audio device by following the steps.

  • Press Windows + R to open the run dialog box.Windows + R
  • Type appwiz.cpl.
  • Click ok.
  • Now, right click IDT and press uninstall.

If the problem is still not fixed, try cleaning the headphone jack which might be causing the problem else contact the manufacturer.
